Frequently asked questions about Installation and finishing tools

What installation tools do I need to avoid uneven floors?

The most effective method nowadays is to combine several things. First, a suitable notched trowel to create an even layer of adhesive. Second, and very importantly, a leveling system consisting of spacers and wedges (like those from Peygran or Rubi). These laying tools press down adjacent tiles so they are exactly the same height while the cement dries. Finally, don't forget a good spirit level to check the overall levelness and a rubber mallet for tapping the tiles into place.

How do concrete finishing tools differ from plastering tools?

The main difference lies in strength and size. Tools for concrete finishing, such as magnesium or blue steel trowels, are typically larger and more rigid to handle a heavy and abrasive material like fresh concrete on floors. Plaster or stucco trowels are usually made of stainless steel, are more flexible, and have smooth edges to leave fine walls without rust marks, since plaster is more delicate and visible.

How do I know which trowel tooth to use among the finishing tools?

The golden rule for finishing and laying tools is the size of the tile and the condition of the substrate. For small tiles or mosaics, a fine 6mm tooth is usually sufficient. If you're laying large formats (60x60 cm and up), you'll need 10 or 12mm teeth, or even double-bonding (applying adhesive to both the subfloor and the tile), to ensure the tile is completely solid and not hollow underneath.

Are the same installation tools suitable for both indoor and outdoor use?

In general, yes, the levels, mallets, and cutters are the same. However, the materials suffer more outdoors. If you're going to work outdoors, make sure your laying tools, and especially your laser measuring tools, are suitable for outdoor use (that the laser is visible in sunlight) and that the metal parts have good corrosion protection if they get wet or muddy frequently.

If I buy professional brand tools, do they come with a warranty?

Of course. As official distributors of brands such as Rubi, Dewalt, Milwaukee, and Stanley, all the finishing tools, installation tools, and machinery you purchase from Brikum come with their official warranty. It is usually 2 years for private users, although some professional brands offer specific extended-warranty terms if you register the machine on their website. We will help you if any problem arises.
